Works are set to begin on the intersections of Davis and Dohertys Road and Boundary and Davis Road after Wyndham council announced funding had been allocated for upgrades in the 2022-23 budget.
About $31 million will be used to repair local roads in Wyndham, including $3.3 million for the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection and half a million dollars to improve the crossover at Boundary and Davis Road.
Wyndham council city operations director Stephen Thorpe said the funding would create a “safer and controlled cross intersection” that will cater for Tarneit’s growing population.
“This upgrade is part of Wyndham City’s commitment to develop, maintain and improve local roads and infrastructure across Wyndham,” he said.
Mr Thorpe said the “much needed upgrade” will provide a safer intersection for all road users by providing a full reconstruction of the intersection, including the installation of new traffic lights.
“We will also reconstruct Davis Road from Twyford Way to Tarnala Road, including one lane in both directions with sealed shoulders,” Mr Thorpe said.
“[We’ll be] undertaking other improvement works, including drainage and the installation of public lighting.
“The construction works are expected to commence early to mid-2023 and take approximately 12 months to complete.”
The Boundary and Davis Road intersection project is jointly funded by both Wyndham and Melton council as part of the rehabilitation of Troups Road South.
“This upgrade will provide a safer intersection which will address road safety concerns due to the unsealed section of Troups Rd (north of the intersection) and increasing traffic volumes in the area,” Mr Thorpe said.
“The intersection upgrade project will include pavement widening and resurfacing to provide safe and smooth ride as well as improvements to signage and line marking for intersection safety.”
The Boundary Road and Davis Road intersection works are expected to begin in late 2022.
