A Wyndham resident fears someone will be killed unless lights are installed at what he labels a “dangerous intersection”.
Resident Brian Gosney says the intersection at Wattle Avenue and Princes Highway has become a hazard for drivers and an accident waiting to happen.
Mr Gosney said it was becoming more and more difficult for cars to cross the highway when turning right from Wattle Avenue onto the Princes Highway.
“The intersection has become more and more of a nightmare. One day someone’s going to get killed,” Mr Gosney told
Star Weekly.
Mr Gosney has urged VicRoads to put traffic lights at the intersection.
Numerous accidents have occurred at the junction.
A number of residents have complained to Wyndham council about the intersection, he said.
Wyndham city economy, innovation and liveability director Kate Roffey, said: “Council recently engaged an independent consultant to assess the intersection. Based on this assessment council are supportive of installation of traffic lights at this intersection and have raised this issue with VicRoads.”
But VicRoads regional director metro north west Vince Punaro said: “At this stage, we’re not planning any immediate improvements to the intersection.
“We regularly receive requests for traffic signals and all of these are considered on a case-by-case basis according to a number of factors including traffic volumes, pedestrian safety, crash record and impact on the surrounding road network,” he said.
“We will continue to monitor the operation of this intersection and will continue to
work with Wyndham City Council to identify the need for future safety improvements.”
The Point Cook Action Group has also filed a complaint about the Point Cook Road and Sneydes Road intersection.
The group has written to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan urging him to consider installing traffic lights and widening Sneydes Road at the intersection.
