More than 400 female students converged on Thomas Carr College to find inspiration for their future careers.
Girls from schools around Victoria and New South Wales attended the It Takes a Spark Conference earlier this month to connect with industry role models, innovators and universities for a day of interactive workshops.
Thomas Carr College principal Craig Holmes said the conference aimed to encourage female students and teachers to explore the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and maths.
“At Thomas Carr College, we have made it our mission to empower our students, in this case our young women,” Mr Holmes said.
“Providing an engaging and innovative learning environment, the college aims to develop the capacity for independent thought and informed decision-making while equipping students with knowledge, skills and attributes to take their place optimistically in a globalised world.
“At the rate we see the world changing, we understand that we need to focus on specific skills that will allow our students to succeed in a rapidly changing environment.
“We believe the best way to do this is to immerse them in scientific advancement and technology.”
The conference covered a host of topics including astrobot building, game design, coding and digital design, circuits and electricity, robot science, entrepreneurship, drones, community needs and problem solving.
