Ink to paper now cheek to cheek for pen pals

A group of primary school pen pals got to meet for the first time last week.

Grade 6 pupils at Al-Taqwa College and Wonthaggi Primary School have spent this past year writing to one another – pen on paper – as pen pals.

Last Tuesday, they put faces to the names when Wonthaggi pupils visited the college’s Truganina campus.

It’s the first year the pen pal program has been running between the schools.

Grade 6 teacher Sara Barez said Al-Taqwa students showed their new friends around the mosque and taught them a bit about the Islamic faith.

The students also took part in a range of bonding activities.

Ms Barez said the visit was a great chance for the students to meet in person and for the Wonthaggi students to find out, first-hand, about Islam.

Ms Barez said the school hopes to continue the program for grade 6 students each year.
