More than 700 people pounded the pavement and raised their heart rates to raise much-needed funds for Werribee Mercy’s critical care unit in Sunday’s 10th annual Wyndham Rotary Fun Run.
Seabrook’s Daniel Dunstone, 19, took the title in the 10-kilometre morning run, completing the course in 35.32 minutes, while Werribee’s Lori Fraser brought it home for the women in 43.34 minutes.
On the five-kilometre course, Dean Ryan of Lake Wendouree was first past the post in 16.53 minutes; Werribee’s Mia White was the first female to finish in 19.34 minutes.
The event, which started at Chirnside Park and wound along the Werribee River Trail, also included four-kilometre and eight-kilometre walking routes, and a children’s-only novelty race.
Wyndham Rotary’s Max Coster said the fun run raised $27,000 for Werribee Mercy Hospital’s critical care unit.
The unit will include eight critical care beds and is part of an $85 million state government- funded expansion of the hospital due to be completed in mid-2018.
“We had a very good community atmosphere. A lot of children and families took part,” Mr Coster said.
“The numbers were up a little bit on last year, and there were quite a few registrations on the day. It was a great event and great weather.”
