Hot idea provides cold comfort

A Werribee woman is hoping to make winter warmer for Wyndham’s most vulnerable residents.

Chelsea Bray has launched One Coat 2016, which she describes as a pay it forward system involving old beanies, coats and scarves.

“The idea came to me after seeing something similar on Facebook,” she said.

“I took the idea and ran with it. It’s a simple way to help those less fortunate stay warm this winter – those individuals and families in our local community who struggle financially.”

She is hoping residents will throw their support behind the initiative by donating unwanted winter wear instead of selling it online or throwing it away.

Ms Bray is collecting winter clothing and then distributing it to local welfare agencies.

She has arranged for collection bins to be placed at a number of local businesses. Any businesses across Wyndham interested in supporting the initiative can host a collection bin.

“We’d love some business from Werribee’s CBD, Hoppers Crossing – all the main areas – to get involved in this,” she said.

“Nobody should be left out in the cold.”
