Seven people were injured and two of Wyndham’s busiest roads were closed on Monday, in a horror day on the city’s roads.

Police said Bulban Road in Werribee was closed for about an hour after a car and truck collided about 9.10am.

Police said a car being driven along McGrath Road failed to pull up at a stop sign before turning left onto Bulban Road.

The car ploughed into the side of a truck. The impact caused the truck to flip onto its side and hit the rear end of an unoccupied car parked in the front yard of a home.

Westgate highway patrol’s Leading Senior Constable Ray Schembri said speed was believed to be a factor in the incident.

He said the car’s driver, a man in his early 20s, was taken to Werribee Mercy for observation. The truck driver was uninjured.

Leading Senior Constable Schembri said the car driver was expected to be charged.

In a separate incident, six people, including two children, were injured when two cars collided head-on in Ballan Road, Wyndham Vale, about 4.15pm.

A man and a woman, both in their 80s, were trapped in their car for more than an hour before being freed.

The man, believed to be the driver, was flown to Royal Melbourne hospital where he was yesterday in a critical condition. His female passenger was taken by ambulance to the same hospital and was in a stable condition.

A man in his 30s, believed to be in the second car, was taken to The Alfred with minor injuries. A man in his 70s was also taken to The Alfred with pelvic and leg injuries. Hospital staff yesterday said he was critical but stable. Two primary school-aged children were taken by ambulance to the Royal Children’s Hospital, where both remained in a stable condition yesterday.

Detectives with the major collision investigation unit are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the Wyndham Vale crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
