Holiday Inn is moving in

The hotel chain that will anchor a $49.5 million high-rise hotel, education precinct and carpark in Werribee’s CBD has been revealed.

InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (IHG) last week announced that it would open a 150-room Holiday Inn as part of a 12-storey development slated for a parcel of land on the corner of Synnot Street and Duncans Road.

The hotel, which will open in 2020, will also include an all-day restaurant and bar, gym, parking, meeting facilities and a function room for up to 400 people.

Plans for the multi-purpose development were lodged by development and project management companies Citinova and the Pelligra Group at the end of October. The development will also include office space, an education centre, retail, a cafe and 371 carparks.

The site – which is currently a 104-space carpark – is one of four carparks owned by Wyndham council that will be converted to high-rise complexes in coming years in a bid to rejuvenate the heart of Werribee.

IHG Australasia and Japan chief operating officer Karin Sheppard said the hotel would be in a prime location for tourists – close to Werribee Park, the Victoria State Rose Garden, the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre, and the Werribee Open Range Zoo.

“Holiday Inn is one of the world’s most recognised and fastest growing hotel brand families, and we’re excited to be continuing that momentum here in Australasia,” Ms Sheppard said.

“The signing of Holiday Inn Melbourne Werribee … adds an important western Melbourne presence to the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express portfolio.”

Pelligra Group chairman Ross Pelligra added: “Werribee and the Wyndham region is set to become a driving force in the development of greater Melbourne, with a population that’s forecast to increase by 53 per cent in the next 15 years.

“I’m particularly excited to partner with a global hotel leader like IHG to bring Holiday Inn Melbourne Werribee, a hotel that is expected to be the best development of its kind in Werribee.”
