A whole lot of rootin’, tootin’ country-and-western fun will be the order of the day when the Laverton Point Cook Rotary Club takes over Saltwater Community Centre early next month.
Event organiser Chris Egger says the fundraiser will support the club’s international humanitarian efforts.
“Our club is involved in a variety of projects to improve the health and wellbeing of others – both here and abroad – with a focus on youth development and protection,” he said.
“Key recent projects have included construction of a new sensory garden at a respite house for families of special-needs children in Werribee.”
The club is also funding a major construction project at the Open Hand Children’s Home in Kenya.
Mr Egger says the home residents rescue newborn children who have been abandoned by their parents.
“The purpose of this country and western night is to improve community awareness of our club and raise funds to support the next stage of the Open Hand Children’s Home project, the club’s youth exchange project, and local school scholarships,” Mr Egger said.
The June 4 event will feature entertainment by country performers Billy Briggs and Rebecca Lee Nye, with an award up for grabs for the best costume.
