Point Cook’s Saltwater Reserve has had a high-tech upgrade.
The reserve is one of 25 facilities across Victoria to benefit from the installation of innovative court access technology as part of the Opening Up Tennis program.
The program, delivered by Tennis Victoria and the state government, links online court booking software to gate and lighting hardware.
This technology allows both club members and casual users to book a tennis court online and check availability in advance.
Facility manager Jeff Baldassarre says the new technology will save time and money for users.
“It’s great for us,” he says. “It means that we don’t have to worry about distributing keys … we also won’t have to worry about lost keys and complaints about who gets access to the courts.
“It’s also a huge cost-saving for us because it means we don’t have to employ someone to take bookings; it’s all done through the new system.
“Wyndham council will also get a clearer picture of usage of the courts and how many coaching hours we use it for, as well as what programs we run.”
Council sport, leisure and open space portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the technology aimed to radically improve access to courts, especially outside of staff business hours.
