The heart health of Wyndham residents is now in even better hands, with St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee preparing to launch a full angioplasty service.

Angioplasty is a minimally invasive surgery which repairs or unblocks blood vessels, such as a coronary artery.

Cardiologist Professor Robert Whitbourn said that for Wyndham residents requiring angioplasty, the option of being treated close to home, with leading-edge technology, would make the overall experience less stressful.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to receive ongoing heart care,” Professor Whitbourn said. “It’s not only about the procedure – having access to the latest equipment and skilled clinicians is crucial – but on top of that it streamlines the journey that a patient and family goes through from diagnosis to full recovery.”

St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee’s general manager Libby Fifis said that Wyndham’s fast-growing population meant there is always demand for medical services.

“As a relatively new hospital, we have a long-term plan to grow with the community and provide the best, most relevant services to match their needs, whether it’s this new service or our remarkable maternity unit, rehab facility or orthopedic surgeons,” she said.
