Staff at Werribee Mercy Hospital received a surprise guest on Tuesday evening, with Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas making a flying visit to thank them for their work.
The Minister was en-route to a function in Warrnambool when she dropped in at 5.30pm on August 8.
Ms Thomas had earlier expressed interest in coming in to thank hospital staff doing night shift when most other workers had finished for the day.
Upon learning that the Minister would be passing through, Mercy Health’s Acting Chief Executive of Health Service Robynne Cooke arranged for her to stop by for a quick ‘meet and greet.’
Minister Thomas met with staff from post-natal, palliative care and the hospital kitchen, with Point Cook MP Mathew Hilakari, Werribee Mercy’s Director of Medical Services Dr Oliver Daly, General Manager Maree Pane and and Ms Cooke also in attendance.
Mary-Anne Thomas said Victorians and the Government were still incredibly grateful for
the efforts of frontline workers during the COVID era.
“We recognise that many of these workers are still giving as much as they can to
support the state’s health system,” she said.
Ms Cooke said hospital staff normally had their “heads down” during
their shifts, but appreciated the Minister making time to visit and express her gratitude.
