Home-office village for Point Cook

Part of the map of the draft development.

Townhouses with purpose-built home offices are on the cards for a parcel of land next door to Point Cook Town Centre – and the developers are inviting nearby residents to have their say.

State government body Places Victoria, which owns the site, expects to submit a planning permit application to Wyndham with a view to starting construction in early to mid-2017 if the plans are approved.

Places Victoria envisions about 100 two and three-storey, three-bedroom townhouses and bike and pedestrian connections.

Places Victoria’s Peter Southwell said that because of the site’s location next to Point Cook town centre, the agency was investigating demand for small home offices to cater for the rising number of people choosing to work from home.

“The demand for new homes in Melbourne’s west is well documented and our core mandate is to contribute to housing diversity in Melbourne through the revitalisation of government land,” Mr Southwell said.

The 20,000-square-metre site is bounded by Murnong Street, Lawler Street, Dunnings Road and the Boardwalk Boulevard wetlands.

Residents can have their say on the plan until May 25 at bit.ly/1TBA8TV, even though the plans meet council requirements and Places Victoria does not have to consult with the community.
