Have your say on team bid

Wyndham residents have been invited to attend a “fan forum” to find out more about the proposal to bring an A-League soccer team to Tarneit.

The Western Melbourne Group (WMG), with support from Wyndham council, has been shortlisted to receive one of two new Football Federation Australia licences for the 2019-20 season.

The WMG wants to build a privately-funded sports precinct in Tarneit – including a 15,000-seat stadium, training pitches and a gym, with residential and commercial development in the surrounding area – where the A-League team would be based.

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said residents had been invited to a “fan forum” about the potential soccer team and stadium, to be held next week.

Cr Maynard said the forum would give residents the chance to meet the people involved in the bid.

“You can have your say on possible team names and colours, so be sure to take this opportunity to be a part of building a new A-League club,” Cr Maynard said.

Former Socceroo captain Steve Horvat, will be at the forum to be held at the Encore Events Centre, 80 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing, from 7pm on Monday, August 13.
