Little Harlyn Ingley celebrated her fifth birthday on August 20.
But like so many others in the community have been doing, both young and old, she celebrated her birthday in lockdown conditions.
Jessica Hii, who works at a childcare centre in Wyndham, said that on the day of her birthday, Harlyn came dressed up in a beautiful dress.
Harlyn’s mother had prepared her birthday party a long time ago, and it was going to be held on August 21, but the party had to be cancelled due to lockdown.
“So we had a little party at the centre, as we do will all children, but unfortunately it’s not the same as she (Harlyn) would have had with all her family and friends around her to celebrate it with her,” Ms Hii said.
“She was very disappointed that her party was cancelled, and her mother mentioned how disappointed she was and we have done the right thing but because there are people who have broken the rules and we find ourselves in lockdown.”
Ms Hii said that Harlyn’s mother said that she could have a party later on, once lockdown has ended.
“Hopefully that won’t be too long, it was explained to her (Harlyn) that her party can’t be held now in case it helps spread the virus,” Ms Hii said.
“She was very upset but understood the reasons why it had to be this way at the moment
“She had a great day at the centre, and we treated her very special to ensure she at least in some way enjoyed her day.
“As a little five-year-old girl she was able to understand the rules and why her birthday had to be different as we just need to keep this lockdown a little longer and hopefully we will be back to some sort of normality sometime soon.”
