Hair deal is a real buzz

These long blonde locks will soon be no longer.

Olivia Kelly (pictured) will chop off her waist-length hair this Sunday, going for a No.4 buzz cut in support of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

The 10-year-old Werribee resident is one of thousands of people around Australia who will shave or colour their hair to raise money for the charity at the weekend.

“Some people at my school did it and I thought it was a good cause,” Olivia said.

The grade 5 Thomas Chirnside Primary School pupil said she was “very excited” in the lead-up to the big shave and planned to donate her blonde locks to children’s charity Variety.

Olivia, who enjoys playing basketball, singing, reading, writing, Pokemon and hanging out with friends, said she wanted to be a surgeon when she grows up.

“I want to help people when they’re sick,” she said.

An average 35 Australians are diagnosed every day with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma and related blood disorders.

World’s Greatest Shave is the Leukaemia Foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser.

Olivia has already passed her fundraising goal of $700, having collected $990 as Star Weekly went to print.
