Green wedge feedback opens

Wyndham council is calling on the community for feedback to better understand the unique area of the Western Plains South Green Wedge, which runs from Little River to Eynesbury.

The feedback will help figure how the region can be protected and managed into the future.

The Western Plains South Green Wedge Landscape Character Assessment has been prepared to facilitate this conversation.

It identifies the need to value open spaces and vegetation, geological features, picturesque views and cultural heritage.

It also recommends support for ongoing agricultural uses and developing the means to respond to agricultural pressures and challenges while exploring opportunities to support sustainable tourism.

Retaining and rehabilitating native vegetation, including grasslands and canopy trees, and protecting geological features like volcanic plains and rocky outcrops are listed as focus areas.

Moreover, using low-impact materials, such as muted colours, non-reflective finishes, and designs to minimise visual impacts of new developments, are flagged.

The community is invited to discuss the project at an information session held on the following two dates.

The first session will be held at the Little River Mechanics Institute on Thursday 12 March from 4-7pm.

The second session will take place at the Manor Lakes Community Learning Centre on Wednesday 18 March from 5.30-8pm.

Anyone who wants to provide feedback can do so via council’s portal, The Loop, by 27 March.
