Gracie’s crowning glory

A Werribee pupil who is a big fan of Queen Elizabeth II has received a royal surprise in the mail.

Five-year-old Gracie, who attends Wyndham Park Primary School, is a devoted follower of the Queen.

Her school work books are full of drawings of the Queen and her castle.

When it comes time to practise her handwriting, Gracie writes about how much she loves the Queen and would like to visit her in England.

Louise Di Dato, who is a foundation teacher and transition and enrolment co-ordinator at Wyndham Park Primary School, said she sent a letter about Gracie to the Queen about six weeks ago.

She also mailed the Queen photographs of Gracie’s artwork.

Ms Di Dato said Gracie was “happy and surprised” when an envelope with a royal crest and a Royal Mail stamp was delivered to the school in response.

Inside was a letter from one of the Queen’s ladies-in-waiting, Susan Hussey, who wrote that “Her Majesty” was touched to know of Gracie’s affection for the royal family.

“I read the letter out to the class and everyone said, ‘Gracie, she’s talking about you,’ and she said, ‘That’s me, that’s me’,” Ms Di Dato said.

Gracie said she liked the Queen because “she is pretty and lives in a tall castle”.

“She wears a special dress with sparkles and a crown which has shiny diamonds,” Gracie said.

“The Queen is very busy and she tells everyone what to do.”
