Good News Lutheran College in Tarneit is trying to reconnect with past students to help celebrate the school’s 25 year anniversary.

Since the college’s establishment in 1992, records of former students have been lost, changed, or become outdated.

Principal Fiona McAuliffe said she’s worried they may have missed students who are an “integral” part of the school’s history.

“In the early days (our records) had landline numbers, a lot of people don’t have landline numbers anymore,” she said.

“We wanted to reach out to collect photos, stories, interesting anecdotes and make sure their period of time with the school is not lost.”

The school has experienced rapid growth since its inception, Ms McAuliffe said, and former students are an important part of who the school’s identity.

“The culture that was established by our old scholars is the strength of the school,” she said.

“Keeping in touch with them and bringing them back I think is important for our current students to be able to see, this is where what you feel…when you’re in the community comes from, it comes from them.”

Ms McAulfille hopes current students will be able to learn from the wisdom of those who came before them.

“They might be interested in going back talking to current students about career paths, community experiences,” she said.

“They’re much more credible as speakers to our students.”

Ms McAulfille said she’s excited to reintroduce past students to the school and enjoys seeing the look on their faces when they see the college for the first time since they attended.

“We’re so excited to be celebrating and hope that anyone that has been part of our growth and development please contact the school,“ she said.
