Animal lovers can go wild on World Environment Day at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
The day will feature the Billy Tea Bush Band, performances by theatre group Born in a Taxi, lantern-making workshops, kids’ activities with Zooperman, and special keeper presentations.
The zoo’s Cathy Nixon says the program will be a great day out for families, with free entry for children under 16.
“On World Environment Day, we’re inviting people to get to know and love our Eastern barred bandicoot, and to learn about the things that we can all do to make a difference for wildlife in our own backyard.”
Ms Nixon says Eastern barred bandicoots need a helping hand in Victoria.
“This amazing local species once ranged across Western Victoria, but is now extinct in the wild of mainland Australia as a result of habitat loss and predation by introduced species, such as foxes and feral cats.”
World Environment Day is commemorated by more than 100 countries.
Go Wild For Bandicoots runs from 10am until 3pm. Tickets are $31.60 for adults. Kids under 16 get free entry on weekends. Information: www.zoo.org.au/werribee
