Glowing with success

Point Cook’s Suji and Jeeva Sanjeevan say getting into candle making four years ago was a risk but that they are determined to shine.

Their Hoppers Crossing business, Light and Glo Designs, creates handcrafted wood wick soy candles blended with natural fragrances.

“What started as a home-based start-up whilst I was on maternity leave in December, 2015, has become an established small-to-medium enterprise,” Suji said.

The duo draw on their backgrounds in the health field to offer a point of difference in their products.

“We draw on our knowledge of hormones and which scents trigger the release of dopamine and serotonin,” Suji said. “Our Asana candles evoke sensory insight, the Tranquillity line was created to allow one to relax, meditate and feel energised and enable stress release based on scientific research.”

Light and Glo Designs has won the manufacturing category in Wyndham Business Awards for two years running and last year Suji was named Young Business Person of the Year.

Light and Glo Designs has entered in the manufacturing category again this year.

Star Weekly is a media partner of the Wyndham Business Awards.

Entries have closed. Finalists will be announced next month with winners announced at a gala presentation evening on August 23. Details: wyndham.vic.gov.au
