Global Learning Festival showcases Wyndham, Melton

Wyndham and Melton councils will take part in the Global Learning Festival from November 8 to 11.

The annual initiative is led by the two councils, which are both accredited UNESCO learning cities.

This year, the festival will include free online learning events for people of all ages, across various languages, time zones and continents to showcase Wyndham and Melton to the world.

Wyndham council’s signature event WYNtalk will explore Reconciliation: respecting and valuing Aboriginal history, learning and teaching, with key-note speaker Shelley Ware on November 8 at 4pm.

Ms Ware, a media presenter, teacher and columnist, will share her perspective on Aboriginal issues, leadership development in indigenous communities, her own journey, AFL and females in sport.

Her presentation will also cover the ways in which Aboriginal history, culture, learning and teaching can be embedded into the broader education system.

Ms Ware is host of the webshow Colour Of Your Jumper and her own Facebook show Ware2Now? which shares the stories of everyday people.

She is also a member of ABC’s Outersanctum podcast, writes a fortnightly AFL column for the Koori Mail and part of the groundbreaking NITV-SBS football program Marngrook.

Wyndham’s learning city portfolio holder, Cr Jasmine Hill, encouraged residents to tune in for Ms Ware’s talk.

“Wyndham City’s signature learning WYNTalk event is not to be missed,” CR Hill said.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about our first people, their culture and history.”
