Giving voice to music legends, Orbison and Cash

They’re American singing legends responsible for iconic hits such as Pretty Woman, Only The Lonely, Walk The Line, Ring of Fire and many more.

Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash will be channelled by Australian performers Dean Bourne and Chris Callaghan when they descend upon the Wyndham Cultural Centre later this month for The Men in Black Tour, a celebration of the Americans’ greatest hits.

Bourne said Orbison and Cash were superstars and friends.

“They were friends from the mid-’50s and right up until Roy passed away in 1988,” he said. “They had so many great songs between them and it’s a really great story to be told.”

Bourne, who has been a Roy Orbison performer for the past 21 years, said he was spellbound by the performer when he first heard the song Crying as a child.

“I can still remember it – it was the voice first and foremost … it was so beautiful,” he said. “I’ve sung that song thousands of times over the years and every time I sing it, it’s just like the very first time. It’s a very powerful song.

“I would sing Roy Orbison songs as a teenager and people would say, ‘You sound so much like Roy Orbison’ … that’s kind of how I fell into doing it.”

Bourne has travelled the world performing Roy Orbison tribute shows and recently completed a sell-out tour in Ireland.

The Men in Black Tour will be at Wyndham Cultural Centre on Friday, May 11.
