Wyndham council’s Get Wyndham Moving transport campaign is proving to be a winner.
The campaign won the Best Advocacy for Infrastructure Investment award at a recent National Growth Areas Alliance national congress in Sydney.
Cr Heather Marcus said judges praised the diversity of strategies used in the campaign.
“They also noted gains already made and believed the campaign would result in further long-term outcomes,” she said.
The Get Wyndham Moving campaign began in early 2014 to address traffic and transport congestion issues in the area, particularly around level crossing removals, road upgrades and commuter carparking.
The council also recruited 12 local “transport champions” to be the faces of the campaign.
Wyndham council transport portfolio- holder Glenn Goodfellow said the council met state and federal politicians and representatives from VicRoads to advocate for Wyndham’s transport needs.
“The thing that set the campaign apart was the overwhelming support from our community,” Cr Goodfellow said.
“Residents, sports clubs, schools, business and industry all got involved and managed to send a strong message to our local state and federal representatives and come up with creative solutions to our congestion problems.”
