Garden plan takes root

By Dewi Sherry

Fresh herbs and vegetables will soon be growing in the community thanks to Williams Landing residents.

The Williams Landing Estate Residents Association will be transforming part of the Melbourne Outfall Sewer Reserve at Williams Landing into a community garden, with the trial kicking off later this year.

The association’s dream will soon become a reality with the garden being set up to open in Pilot Park next to Lukis Avenue.

Wyndham City’s family friendly city portfolio holder councillor Mia Shaw said the fact the garden was open for all residents, should build a sense of community in a fast growing area.

“There are so many benefits to having a community garden at the heart of a neighbourhood,” Cr Shaw said. “It gives residents the opportunity to get to know one another, fostering a community identity and spirit.

“A community garden also provides residents with the opportunity to grow their own fresh herbs and vegetables, increasing residents’ intake of fresh produce.”
