Garbage truck fire in Werribee

Firefighters responded to a rubbish truck fire at 12.45pm this afternoon on Parramatta Road, Werribee after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported seeing the truck in flames.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters arrived on scene to find the rear of the rubbish truck alight.

Crews attacked the fire after the truck released the rubbish it was carrying on to the road.

Crews needed two hours to fully extinguish the flames before handing the scene to police and Wyndham council.

The fire was deemed under control at 2.58pm.

CFA confirmed it provided one support vehicle to assist FRV.

Resident Allan Calleja said he saw fire damage to the body of the vehicle and he was unable to leave his house during the response due to traffic restrictions.

The EPA was also notified of the incident.
