A Werribee women’s group is helping raise money for kids struggling with the loss of a parent thanks to a community garage sale.

The Country Womens Association (CWA) Werribee South Branch held the garage sale on Saturday, March 18 and raised close to $1500 for the grief-assistance organisation Wombat’s Wish.

President Julia Toffolon said she was proud of how well the garage sale performed despite the weather on the day.

“It was an absolutely incredibly hot day,” she said.

“It was a bit ghastly the weather, but it was very well attended, and we sold a lot of stuff.”

Ms Toffolon said the group ran an Easter raffle during the garage sale event and sold many plants, scones, cupcakes, toys and craft items on the day.

“We had a lot of help on the day, and we did really, really well,” she said.

“We picked up new members, and received a lot of interest in CWA as we got to talk a bit more about the work we do.”

Ms Toffolon said she was glad to donate money from the garage sale and an upcoming Mother’s Day morning tea to Wombat’s Wish to provide young people with weekend camps and support.

“They do some really amazing work,” she said.

“Children need to know that there’s goodness in the world.

“Children need to know that even if life hands them a raw deal, someone cares.”
