Luke Cini is gunning for a trans-Tasman title in esports.
The 20-year-old Tarneit gamer will pit himself against the best at the Six Masters tournament, featuring 12 teams from Australia and New Zealand, at the end of this month playing the Rainbow Six Siege game.
Luke, who goes by Redd online, has been playing the tactical shooting game for the past two years. He and his teammates placed in the top four of the 16 teams in the heats last month.
Teams of five players and a coach have been training nightly in recent months to compete at Margaret Court Arena over two days from August 31 for a share of the $50,000 prize pool.
“You have to be 18 and over to play Rainbow Six Siege, so as soon as I turned 18 I started playing,” Luke told
Star Weekly.
“Practice will start at about 7.30pm and go through until midnight.
“I can’t leave uni to do this full-time so I balance my study with gaming for now.”
Luke’s team, which represents Australian organisation Oddity Esports, includes Isaiah “Vast” Patterson, Jake “God Legion” Harris, Vincent “Vinnie” Daniele, Todd “Todd” Francis and Brandon “Raven” Langiano.
