Construction has begun on the second half of the $3.8 million Galvin Park Soccer Pavilion redevelopment.
Wyndham council last week announced that works at the Werribee facility are on track to be completed by mid-next year.
Work on the first part of the new pavilion is well under way. The site’s existing pavilion has also been demolished, paving the way for construction of the second stage.
Once completed, the upgraded Galvin Park facility will include a large community social room, six new changerooms for all genders, a large kitchen and canteen, public toilets, modern referee facilities and new car parking spaces.
It will also be accessible for people with a disability, with three accessible toilet/shower rooms and access throughout the facility.
The project has been jointly funded by Wyndham council, which has invested $2.8 million, and the state government, which has contributed $1 million.
The council’s director of city life, Allison Kenwood, said the redeveloped pavilion would service four soccer pitches and transform Galvin Park into a state-of-the-art sporting hub.
“This redevelopment marks the fifth stage of the Galvin Park Master Plan rollout, including a new $2 million tennis pavilion and new $1.7 million oval in the past two years alone,” Ms Kenwood said.
“Council is committed to building the infrastructure our growing community needs, and the redevelopment of Galvin Park Soccer Pavilion will provide another great asset in Werribee that will help boost participation in sport.
“Community sport has all but ground to a halt this year due to COVID-19 restrictions but that hasn’t stopped work on this important piece of infrastructure, which will provide a new home for the Werribee City Soccer Club and the many community groups and schools that use this space.”
