A fundraising page has been established to support a Tarneit mother and her son whose husband and other son were killed when an SUV ploughed into a pub beer garden in Daylesford on Sunday.

Thirty six year old Ruchi Bhatia is in intensive care at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and her six year old son Abeer is recovering from broken legs and internal injuries at the Royal Children’s Hospital after the incident which killed her 38 year old husband Vivek Bhatia, 11 year old son Vihaan and three others from Wyndham’s Indian community on Sunday evening.

Fourty four year old Pratibha Sharma, her 30 year old partner Jatin Chugh and nine year old daughter Anvi, all of Point Cook, were also killed when a BMW SUV crashed into the beer garden at the Royal Daylesford Hotel at about 6pm on November 5.

Another three people, including an 11 month old baby, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 66 year old driver from Mt Macedon is in hospital being treated for shock and is expected to be interviewed by police.

According to the fundraising page, the Bhatia’s had only recently bought a home in Tarneit after being granted permanent residency to remain in Australia.

The fundraiser for Ruchi and Abeer Bhatia was set up on Tuesday afternoon by close friend Amandeep Kaur and Tarneit businessman and former Liberal Party candidate Preet Singh.

“It will be a long way to recovery and to get over this unbearable loss,” said Ms Kaur on the fundraising page.

“The least we can do is to help raise funds for the family – which would assist in their recovery and future. Please keep the Bhatia family in your prayers and donate whatever you may.”

Just hours after being set up, nearly $2000 had already been donated to the fundraiser which has a target figure of $50,000.
