Improvements to play equipment at a Hoppers Crossing reserve and a new pedestrian crossing and footpath for Werribee South were the only requests made to Wyndham council as part of their pre-budget submissions last week.
The Ratepayers of Werribee South group requested the council fund a $5000 pedestrian crossing connecting the existing footpaths near the corner of O’Connors and Beach roads.
The group also requested funding for a $15,000 footpath on Beach Road to allow access to the bus stop for the elderly and disabled.
The group acknowledged council’s budgetary restraints, but asked that funding for the items be included in this year’s budget.
Hoppers Crossing resident Don Lee asked the council to fund the upgrade of Symons Reserve play equipment.
Mr Lee said the existing play area had not been upgraded for 15 years.
“There are still many families with children living within this area of Hoppers Crossing who could greatly benefit from the improved quality of life that such an upgrade to this reserve would bring about,” he said.
Wyndham council’s application to exceed the rate-rise cap was last month knocked back by the Essential Services Commission. The council says it will have to cut about $3 million from its proposed capital works spend.
