Federal cuts may have sounded the death knell for Werribee’s only school holiday programme run by the Try Youth Club at Laverton. Laverton’s Try Youth Club worker, Mr John Circosta, said the club applied for a grant to help run its May school holiday programmes and got nothing.

An American professor has compared Werribee’s campaign to establish itself as Australia’s biotech capital to that of war. Professor Ed Blakely, of the University of California, said Werribee is at war with its biotech plans and the town’s enemies are those who do not wish to see Werribee as the biotech capital.

Some Tarneit residents are frustrated at having to wait up to five hours to fill their water tanks. About 50 residents, who use the water for their household needs, claim water is merely trickling from the Tarneit Road standpipe – creating delays and massive queues for people filling their watertanks.

Despite promises that Wyndham North’s new police station would be completed by the middle of next year, it’s almost certain it won’t be open until the second half of 2009. However, Wyndham Council signalled last week it was placing pressure on the State Government and police command as it started to count down the days until its proposed completion next year.
