February 25, 2002 Further questions have been raised about a State Government decision not to upgrade the Werribee Mercy Hospital’s urgent care unit after it was revealed that 29,000 people sought medical attention at the unit last year. The figures – almost the same as the number recorded at St Vincent’s Private Hospital emergency unit – come just one week after the Banner revealed Health Minister John Thwaites and Werribee MP Mary Gillett had broken a pre-election promise to upgrade the Mercy’s urgent care unit.
