February 19, 1999 “THE best thing that ever happened with Coode Island was that the wind blew the smoke over the eastern suburbs,” said Yarraville resident Julie Beckwith, to ensuing applause and cheers at a public meeting held by the Coode Island Review Panel in Werribee last week. Her sentiments were echoed by the more than 300 people who crammed into Centenary Hall to voice their opinions against any move of Coode Island chemical storage facilities to either Point Cook, Altona or west of Corio.
