Competitive frisbee is taking off in Wyndham – just ask Dillon Taylor.

Mr Taylor, who has been playing “flying disc” for almost four years, is the vice-president of Wyndham Ultimate.

Ultimate is a sport in its own right and is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission.

It is played between two teams, with goals scored at either end of a rectangular pitch.

Wyndham Ultimate plays against other teams from across the state and last month took part in its first national tournament, the division two Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships in New South Wales.

Mr Taylor, who led his team as captain, was one of two male competitors who received a Most Valuable Player award at the event.

Mr Taylor, 25, said he enjoyed playing Ultimate because he was “super-competitive” and also liked the people involved in the sport.

He also plays football and he said after he first took up competitive frisbee, it took some getting used to the fact that it is a non-contact sport.

Mr Taylor said that in the future, he would like to represent Australia in Ultimate.

“Usually I train at least once a week, and if can, get out more on my own,” he said.

He also coaches teams at the Wyndham Ultimate club and said anyone who was interested was welcome to join up.

“We have an indoor league every Sunday night at Eagle Stadium and we want as many people as possible to come,” he said.
