Police are investigating after a collision between a truck and pedestrian on the Western Ring Road, citybound at Laverton this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 9.40am.
The male pedestrian was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The truck driver stopped at the scene and has spoken with police.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined.
The freeway was closed for some time near Fitzgerald Road, as police conducted their investigations.
Altona-bound lanes of the Ring Road have now opened following the closure.
Delays persist in the area, however authorities expect them to ease quickly.
The Department of Transport has thanked the community for their patience.
