The Chirnside Masonic Lodge and Freemasons Foundation have made a generous donation to the Mercy Health Foundation.

The lodge recently presented the Mercy Health Foundation with a cheque for $5000.

Lodge secretary Tim Harris said the money came from a beneficial account to which members donate.

Mr Harris said the lodge approached the Freemasons Foundation, asking it to contribute. The foundation added another $5000 to the funds, bringing the total donation to $10,000.

The master of Chirnside Masonic Lodge, Ray Bruerton, said the money would be used to purchase four ECG machines for the new Critical Care Unit at Werribee Mercy Hospital.

Mercy Health Foundation executive director Simon White said the hospital was hoping to raise a total of $2 million to help fit out the CCU.
