Work on the long-awaited duplication of Forsyth Road will begin next month following Wyndham council’s selection of the successful construction bidder.
The council has awarded the $7.54 million road duplication to Negri Contractors, with the work expected to take about 10 months.
Forsyth Road will be duplicated from two lanes to four between Ashcroft Avenue and Sayers Road. The project will include a new traffic light intersection at Waterways Boulevard and a pedestrian crossing at the Federation Trail crossing.
Once the work is finished, Forsyth Road will be fully duplicated between Old Geelong Road and Leakes Road.
Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard called on drivers to allow a little bit of extra time when travelling on Forsyth Road in coming months, when reduced speed limits will be in place.
“These works not only make the road safer, but will also ease congestion, getting our residents home to their families sooner,” Cr Maynard said.
“Works as part of the state government’s western roads upgrade package has commenced – upgrading and widening eight of our busiest roads – and a key project in this package is the Forsyth Road interchange.
“We’ve strategically planned our works on Forsyth Road to take place ahead of these works to alleviate as much disruption as possible.”
