A church from the early 1900s which has been converted into a two-storey family home is going under the hammer this month.
“St Augustine” was built in Lismore in 1912 and over the years has been remodelled into a residential property. The building was moved to a 715 square metre block in Werribee’s Chirnside Avenue in 2001.
The property last sold in May 2015 for $490,000 and has since undergone an extensive double-storey renovation, adding an undercover outdoor entertaining area, pool and spa.
Despite the new ultra-modern fittings, the original building has retained much of its heritage, including 3.5 metre cathedral ceilings and the original stained glass doors and windows. The former altar now serves as the kitchen bench.
It will go to auction on November 25 at 10.30am with an asking price between
$1 million and $1.1 million.
Ray White Werribee principal Michelle Chick said the property had to be seen to be believed.
“It’s amazing, it’s like nothing else you’ve seen,” she said.
