The May 13 meeting between Point Cook FC and Werribee Districts was already shaping as one of the biggest games of the WRFL season so far.
But the clash between the two Wyndham based clubs has now taken on even greater significance with both sides playing for the inaugural Wyndham Health Cup.
The game will be played in support of the Wyndham Health Foundation, with all proceeds going towards the purchase of a pediatric cot for use at local hospitals.
Point Cook will host the game at their Saltwater Reserve home ground and club president, Ivo Havard, said he couldn’t think of a better cause to fundraise for.
“Wyndham Health do an amazing job for the Wyndham Community, it is only natural that Wyndham local football rivals face off for the honour of holding the Wyndham Health Cup.”
Wyndham Health Foundation CEO and 2023 Wyndham Citizen of the Year, Leanne Down, said she was humbled by the support.
“Community supporting our Wyndham clubs, clubs joining forces, and everyone coming together to support our health services.
It’s a true testament as to why Wyndham is a fantastic place to live” Down said.
The Wyndham Health Cup will be awarded to the winner of all three games on the day, with under 18’s beginning at 9.50am, reserves at 12.00pm and seniors at 2.15pm,
A sponsor’s lunch featuring speeches from both coaches will also be held on the day.
