Five people have been arrested over an alleged theft at a construction site in Port Melbourne, where $70,000 worth of power tools were stolen.

It will be alleged that three people attended the site on Williamstown Road, at 11pm on Tuesday July 9 in a stolen Nissan X-Trail bearing stolen NSW number plates.

Police allege the group spent two-and-a-half hours inside the site, stealing power tools and electronic equipment worth almost $70,000.

Following inquiries, the Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit with assistance from the Macedon Ranges, Stonnington and Wyndham Crime Investigation Units, as well as the Prahran Divisional Response Unit, performed four simultaneous search warrants in the northern and western suburbs from about 7am on Tuesday September 10.

During a search of a Hoppers Crossing home, police recovered power tools they believe were stolen during the burglary, as well as CCTV from the worksite.

Police also located a quantity of methamphetamine, clothing deemed relevant to the investigation and several items of identification they believe were stolen.

A 37-year-old from Wyndham Vale, a 45-year-old from Wyndham Vale, a 40-year-old woman from Hoppers Crossing and a 25-year-old man from Williams Landing were arrested in different suburbs across the West.

A 38-year-old man from Hoppers Crossing was also arrested for an unrelated issue during the string of arrests.
