First stop, Werribee

Famous Australian singer, musician and songwriter Tim Freedman will perform at Wyndham Cultural Centre in Werribee on Friday.

The event will be the first in Freedman’s regional solo tour, and the only show within the Melbourne region during the tour.

The concert will feature classic tracks from The Whitlams, the band which Freedman is singer and keyboardist of, along with re-invented favourites including Blow Up the Pokies and No Aphrodisiac.

The latter song was crowned number one on radio station Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown in 1997 and received Song of the Year at the ARIA Music Awards the following year.

As well, The Whitlams took home Best Independent Release for their Eternal Nightcap album and Best Group at the 1998 ARIAs.

During his Werribee show, Freedman will also play a few tracks from The Whitlams’ forthcoming album and his new single, Man About a Dog.

The single is about taking the boy out of the city and placing him firmly in the country – driving through the hills to see a “Man About a Dog”, just as the drought breaks.

Wyndham’s creative city portfolio holder, Cr Marcel Mahfoud, said that audience members of Freedman’s Man About a Dog Tour 2021 would be able to “reminisce, enjoy and relive the nineties”.

“It’s exciting to have Tim Freedman perform in Wyndham,” Cr Mahfoud said.

The show will begin at 5.30pm on Friday. Tickets: $50. Bookings are essential, see https://www.wyncc.com.au/whats_on/timfreedman for details.
