The Werribee CFA has been recognised for donating more than $1 million to the Good Friday Appeal.

Members and volunteers from the CFA branch (which is also known as the Werribee Fire Brigade) were presented with a plaque commemorating their achievement last Wednesday.

The brigade reached the $1 million donation milestone after last year’s appeal.

The Werribee CFA has been involved in fundraising for the Good Friday Appeal, an annual fundraiser for The Royal Children’s Hospital, for more than 40 years.

The brigade became involved in the appeal after two prominent Wyndham families, the Chamberlains and the Tooheys, asked for help to collect donations.

The families, who had been collecting funds for the appeal for years, approached the brigade as the Werribee township had grown too big for them to cover alone.

Werribee Fire Brigade Lieutenant Darryl Wells said about 160 volunteers helped with the appeal every year.

Last year more than 500 volunteers took part, raising more than $79,138.

The brigade will also take part in this year’s Good Friday Appeal, which will be held on Friday, March 30.
