Fire investigators will head to Werribee’s Shadowfax Winery today to determine the cause of a small blaze in its kitchen early this morning.
Werribee CFA’s Darryl Wells said firefighters were called to the scene about 7am and found part of the winery’s kitchen alight.
Fellow CFA member Mick Davie said the fire had spread to rows of empty display wine barrels.
It took a team of five tankers, three pumpers and a rescue unit about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
No one was in the premises at the time of the fire, and the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
Mr Davie said about 10 per cent of the kitchen was damaged by the fire.
Shadowfax was contacted for comment
More to come.
