Wyndham council has started work on the final piece of an $11.4 million project to upgrade almost 200 parks.
The Wyndham Parks 2021 project was launched about four years ago.
It includes $1.9 million for work at 25 local parks during 2020-21.
Westonbury Drive Park in Point Cook, will receive a playground upgrade, nature play space, park furniture upgrade and new signage.
Malleehen Street Park in Werribee will have a new concrete path installed, additional trees for shade, park furniture upgrade and garden bed works carried out while Conquest Drive Park, will receive a furniture upgrade, drinking fountain, concrete path and grass improvements.
The council’s director of city operations, Stephen Thorpe, said Wyndham Parks 2021 was a major initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and give residents access to great parks close to home.
“These important works have breathed new life into nearly 200 of our local parks, creating beautiful open spaces that the whole family can enjoy,” Mr Thorpe said.
“They include upgrading playground equipment and nature play, new pathways with additional landscaping and trees to encourage exercise, and picnic equipment and seating.
“We know that spending time in your local park – whether for exercising, playing with your children or simply relaxing – can bring significant benefits to people’s mental and physical health.
“Now that parks and playgrounds have been re-opened to the public, I encourage families to take their kids out and make the most of our upgraded parks – while observing current COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing.”
