Don’t walk or run, but gallop to the 11th annual Clydesdale and Heavy Horse Festival this weekend.
The event, which is affiliated with the Commonwealth Clydesdale Horse Society (CCHS), will be held at the Werribee Park
National Equestrian Centre on Saturday and Sunday.
CCHS Victoria branch committee member Barb Ford said this year’s festival would celebrate a century since the society was established.
Ms Ford said her father bred Clydesdale horses and supplied many horses to the Metropolitan Dairy in Werribee.
He was also a member of the CCHS before her.
Nowadays, Ms Ford breeds Clydesdales in Diggers Rest.
She will show two steeds, a four-year-old mare and a yearling filly, at the festival.
“They’ve pretty much all got their own character and individuality,” Ms Ford said.
“You feel the horses love you back, but I’m not sure if the fact you feed them also plays a major part!”
The festival will include about 140 horses, horse-drawn carts, a Clydesdale history display, a trade village with stalls and gifts, food and meet and greets with the horses. Admission: $10, children under 16 free.
