A tender has been awarded for the construction of a new $18.4 million community centre in Truganina, Wyndham council has announced.
Construction of centre will begin next month and is expected to be completed in early 2024.
Council said the centre will provide the community access to a wide range of community services in a safe, welcoming, and sustainable facility.
“The new Truganina Community Centre will support our residents to learn skills, create new projects and connect with their neighbours and Wyndham City services,” Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said.
“This centre will be a place where our residents can stay active in their community and share their resources, so everyone gets help to live their best lives.”
Council said the facility will be designed and constructed sustainably to be carbon neutral in operation and all-electric, targeting a 5-star Green Star rating.
Residents will be able to access vital services like three and four-year-old kindergarten, maternal and child health, allied health and youth services.
Community programs and events and activities will provide opportunities for residents to meet and connect and participate in community life.
The Truganina Community Centre will also feature a Library Lounge, which will offer a collection of items residents can borrow, and access to technology and quiet space.
Wyndham council said Truganina is a rapidly growing area with a forecasted population of
40,786 residents in 2022.
An additional 12,017 residents are expected to live in Truganina by 2041, accounting for a 29 per cent increase in the local population.
“Wyndham City community centres are a network of connection, opportunity and care for our residents,” welcoming City Portfolio holder councillor Jennie Barrera said.
“We are pleased to be delivering new community centres in high-growth areas to support these emerging communities.”
Wyndham council said it is interested in understanding how this centre can best meet the local community’s needs.
