Wyndham’s community spirit was on show last week, following a fatal crash that closed the Princes Freeway for almost 10 hours.
A 28-year-old Hoppers Crossing man died at the scene after a collision involving a truck and six cars on the freeway near Palmers Road about 2.45pm on March 16. Fourteen people were involved in the incident.
While drivers heading home spent hours sitting in gridlocked traffic, a number of local residents offered helping hands.
One father-and-daughter team opened their home to anybody needing to use the bathroom, while also offering water to drink.
A local couple also drove around the gridlocked traffic on a scooter with bottles of water for those thirsty.
A Point Cook-based caterer prepared meals for one family whose car was written off in the crash.
The freeway was re-opened at midnight.
The crash is under police investigation.
Investigators would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident but was unable to stop and provide their details.
They are also seeking dash-cam footage.
Anyone with information is being encouraged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
