Fashion designer on track

Point Cook fashion designer Prerna Khanna says that she enjoys helping people look their best, no matter what size or shape they are.

Ms Khanna, whose fashion label is named Orne, also has a store at the Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre under the same name.

“I love dressing up ladies and kids,” she said.

“As a designer, the most rewarding thing is to see happiness on a customer’s face when I style them up, and that boosts their confidence to embrace their body shape, in most fashionable unique designer clothing.”

Ms Khanna studied at the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology in her native India, then worked for labels including French Connection, Zara, Next, Debenhams, Target and Kmart.

Upon migrating to Australia, she obtained a Masters in fashion and retail at the University of Wollongong.

Since then, her store has been named as a finalist in the 2019 Wyndham Business Awards, and her clothes have featured in several Melbourne fashion festivals.

Ms Khanna said the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted upon her business, with people refraining from attending events like weddings, school formals, award nights and parties.

Ms Khanha said her store’s sales have fallen by between 80 to 90 per cent, but she was trying to remain connected with customers online.

“It’s always important to be a self-believer,” she said.

“When you respect yourself, you can achieve anything that you want.

“Hardships come and go, but staying positive and determined keeps you on track.”
