A six-year-old Wyndham Vale girl will be farewelled today after losing a two-year battle with brain cancer.
The funeral of Alexandra Miller, who died on September 22, will be held at Altona Memorial Park.
Family have asked funeral-goers to wear pink, Alex’s favourite colour.
Alex was diagnosed in late 2013 with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma – a rare and incurable tumour in the middle of the brain stem that affects only children.
Doctors at the Royal Children’s Hospital see about three cases a year.
Doctors initially told Alex’s parents she would live between three and 12 months longer, but she defied doctors and fought for two years.
Since her diagnosis, Alex’s family and friends had been on a mission to help her create as many happy memories as possible.
Parents Eva and Andrew also tried an organic diet and alternative therapies in addition to her radiation in a bid to beat the cancer.
Alex’s family announced her passing on The Race for Alex Facebook page later that day.
Their tribute stated simply: “We will love you till the end of time.”
The poignant message spawned more than 1500 tributes.
Alex leaves behind her parents, and siblings Tessa, Shana, Ash and Brooke.
